Radon in homes, measurement and mitigation -NEW!

Adult Enrichment / Curious Minds -
Fall 25

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into your home through cracks in the foundation, gaps around pipes, and other openings. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon is a serious health concern, as it is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. In this class, you will learn what radon is, how it enters indoor spaces, and why it poses risks to your health. You will also discover how radon is measured in homes, including the differences between short-term and long-term testing methods and how detectors are used. Finally, the course will guide you through practical strategies to reduce radon levels, from sealing entry points to installing more advanced mitigation systems. By the end of the session, you will know how to assess radon risk, understand test results, and take informed steps to protect your home and family.
