Some of the most interesting tidbits of British History are found in the most off the road places. Mary, Queen of Scotts, Llewellyn the Last Prince of Wales, just to name a few.

Born in 1947, to parents who had recently left England at the end of WWII, my interest in British history must have come from them. My English grandparents, for my 5th birthday, were already sending me small castles and “tin” soldiers. Robin Hood has always been a folk hero of mine not to mention King Arthur. After retiring from 37 years of teaching for Intermediate School District 287 in the spring of 2009, I offered my services to the Minnetonka Senior Center as well as the Plymouth Creek Center. The Minnetonka class was proposed to be a 12 week class and we are still going strong. My home’s lower floor has become, in tribute, a museum to a small village in Northamptonshire. Nether Heyford is the village of my ancestors back for unknown generations. I have been lucky enough to return the British Isles more than 12 times and have led 6 student groups there on ten-day to two week tours.
The major purpose of my presentations is to stimulate thinking so that students will ask questions. To ask questions of me, yes, but more importantly of themselves. I am not always proud of the actions of my ancestral Englishmen, but I am proud to be English.
Stressing the importance of a single date in history can be over stressed. If you become interested in the topic, then remembering the dates will become much easier. It is far better to just get things in the correct sequence and importance. The rest will follow.
I look forward to meeting with you in a fun and relaxed attitude of learning. Most class sessions are a combination of questions brought to class by the students, an oral presentation and a prerecorded video to supplement my presentation. The usual class period is two hours.
